GLOW AUDIO Amp One: Series I (Ferrari Red). About: This open box unit is an original Series I unit dating back to 2007-2009 production runs. The Ferrari Red was extremely popular, for some reason especially among our European customers. It has that single ended sound that made this original an instant classic. Built to last, these units just work.... and play on and on, with little to no maintenance required. As you can see in the photos, the iconic look of the Amp One changed very little over time, so this amp does not look dated or old. The condition is excellent, with paint and finish having no blemishes. Things to note about the original Amp One: This unit has the original squared GLOW logo rather than the rounded logo seen on later GLOW gear. Only one RCA input; later models have 2 RCA inputs. The built in DAC is not recommended for use, as newer DACs are vastly improved over what was available in 2007-2009. We recommend this amp for speaker use only, as the headphone jack for Series I amps is prone to hum; this unit has been tested and while the headphone jack works, we recommend using this amp to drive speakers only. GLOW AUDIO Amp One: Series II (Pearl White). This open box unit is in the limited edition Metallic Pearl White finish and has a refined and beautiful look, you won't want to hide it in a cabinet! Photos do not do it justice, the finish is amazing. The Series II is distinguished by the addition of a light switch to turn off the color light ring for those purists out there. Long story here, but the Series II amps are limited to using non-Euro Slovak, Czech, Soviet, US, and Chinese el84s. Euro NOS (English, French, Dutch etc) won't work due to different pin circuits. That said there are plenty of tube options for this amp. The Series II has only 1 RCA input. It has an inboard DAC unit that, given advancements in DAC technology since the 2000s, we do not recommend using as the amp will sound much better with analog sources, or digital sources from better quality DACs that are now available. The Series II headphone jack does not incorporate the improvements made available in the Series III units such as the impedance matching switch, and the jack housing is not durable and prone to hum over time. There is audible hum on silent and quiet passages with this unit during headphone use that you won't hear when playing through loudspeakers. GLOW AUDIO Amp One: Series III (Tuxedo). This unit incorporates all of the incremental improvements and changes to our acclaimed Amp One, while still keeping the iconic look that our customers love. The Series III removes the inboard DAC to make room for an additional RCA source input. The tube cage uses a bolder, more sophisticated looking and more transparent mesh. The Series III also has the best headphone assembly, which includes an impedance switch to better match up with low and high impedance headphones. The tuxedo finish (gloss black chassis and silver endplates) is my personal favorite; the fit and finish is excellent and it is a refined looking unit that looks much more expensive than the price indicates. This unit does not have the tube limitation of the Series II. We will include our sleeper GLOW AUDIO DAC 1.3 outboard DAC with purchase of this unit, a $128 value. HISTORY: This amp was returned for repairs. The L channel 6n3 plate connect wire had a poor connection, causing L channel drop out. The unit was repaired by the renowned tube amp specialist, Kent Leech (look him up, he's a legend). Mr. Leech's full inspection report is included with this unit.
